YMSL is a service organization that brings mothers and their high school sons together to make a positive impact in their community. Being the Vice President of Communications for my chapter has helped me contribute to that goal while growing as both a communicator and a leader. In this role, I keep members informed about meetings, service opportunities, deadlines, and other important updates. I have learned that communication needs to be clear and organized because one missing detail can create confusion for the entire chapter.

One of my main responsibilities is making sure information reaches everyone in an easy-to-understand way. Before sending announcements, I check that the dates, times, locations, and instructions are correct. Also, when plans change, I have to respond quickly so members know what to expect.

This position connects to my interest in industrial engineering because both focus on improving operations and making systems more efficient. As VP of Communications, I help improve the system our chapter uses to share information by keeping updates accurate, organized, and on time. This prevents confusion and delays, allowing meetings and service events to operate more smoothly. The role has strengthened my organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills while showing me how improving one part of a system can make the entire organization more effective.
